Here is a 40 second snippet of the fun I had yesterday with a soundtrack.

A lake has erupted at the new beer garden underneath the new high line area…..as all good new yorkers react in such a situation, we’ve started a party.

I’ve bought numerous packs of chewing gum at this stand since my teenage years. Please GO HERE to sign the petition and learn more about Jerry’s story.
The Drums epitomize summer for me, so I’m super happy I was able to see them play on one of the hottest days in nyc. It was even too hot to enjoy any of the cold beer they had available.
Be on the lookout for a new Drums album in September……

Meet my new roommate Mickey. He decided to move in last night despite the fact that we never had a real conversation solidifying our living arrangements. I was relaxing on my couch, watching some Sex and the City reruns and surfing the internet when I saw something move out of the corner of my eye. I figured my eyeglasses were reflecting off of my glass coffee table…but then it happened again, so I stood up. And there was Mickey, scurrying with his moving boxes and luggage, trying to hide the fact that he moved in without giving me a security deposit! The nerve of him!! All I could do was climb to the very top of my couch, screaming, crying and shaking. I immediately called my dad for some advice who in turn called my sister - the next thing I know I have my sister, grandmother and cousin at my door armed with brooms. We had plans to scare Mickey out of wherever he decided to put his room, catch him in a bucket and chuck him out the window, but he decided to leave and not deal with us. At midnight last night, I decided to redecorate my apartment with the latest thing - glue traps with dollops of peanut butter….and I haven’t been back to enjoy it.
I generally don’t do well with drastic life changes, and since I enjoy living by myself, a new roommate is not in the cards for me. In fact, it is so disturbing, I had a nightmare about it. I dreamt that my sister and I caught Mickey…who was actually not a mouse, but a rabbit. And we managed to get him into my large suitcase which we zipped up and threw out the window - 21 floors down….and I immediately felt better.
Mickey….you have gotsa go. There is not enough room in my one bedroom apartment for both of us….besides I take up too much closet space.

This was the insanity that was PS1 on Saturday. Word on the street was that it was at full capacity which would explain the line that was wrapped around the block. Luckily, I have some awesome friends and was able to skip the line.
If you squint hard enough at my picture, you can see SBTRKT and Sampha playing, my primary purpose of going (that doesn’t mean I didn’t love hanging with my friends). If you recall, my obsession with SBTRKT started earlier this year and is still going strong. If you haven’t picked up his EP, I promise, it WILL be your summer soundtrack. Promise.

Boardwalk Empire is filming in my neighborhood…my street to be specific…it looks like they were going to be shooting a scene today inside the theatre at Henry Street Settlement.

I watched this video a couple of times…trying to search for clues as to what happened because I think this video conveys only one side of the story.
Here’s what I really think what happened since it’s MY NEIGHBORHOOD:
This hip hop show happened at Tammany Hall on Ludlow. It’s a ‘new’ venue which really means it has just changed owners. The place gets packed, people stand on the streets, they are loud, yelling, smokers, etc. Since this show was being headlined by Smif n Wessun (don’t you think the group’s name is sooo ironic to the situation…it’s not like they named themselves to promote peace, love and understanding), so I’m pretty positive a large crowd of the concert-goers were not LES local, but came down from the other boroughs. I think a noise complaint was issued to the NYPD because people were being loud, cops showed up, and some ghetto mofo started to mouth off at the cops and BAM….tempers flared, concert-goers pushed cops, cops pushed back, arrests were made and people start claiming the cops started it & all that craziness ensued.
If you start mouthing off to a cop, dumb move. He can arrest you and you go to JAIL. A cop nudges you to move along (in an attempt to keep a crowd going), don’t push back. He can arrest you and you go to JAIL. If a cop tells you to move along…move along. You’ll never see him again. Jail is not somewhere that anyone should want to spend time in. Jail is not a badge of courage.
This was supposed to be a music show. Not a moment to make a point about police brutality and racial profiling that does occur. If you want to highlight racial profiling & police brutality, start an organized peaceful protest, start a campaign, DO SOMETHING PRO-ACTIVE. Don’t start acting like an ass like those shown in the video above.
UPDATE
As I mentioned yesterday (above) that this riot consisted of non-locals, the names and addresses of those arrested were released today:
244 Bond St., Brooklyn
145 Tremont St., New Britain, Conn.
238 Bond St., Brooklyn
450 W. 17th St., Manhattan
9216 34th Ave., Queens
BOOYAH!!!

FINALLYYYYY!!!!
For years….I mean Y-E-A-R-S I’ve walked past this building, have taken numerous pictures of its graffiti sprawled exterior, tried to peer past the plastic that covers the windows, and spent countless hours googling the address….all in the efffort to find out what is up with the building and who lives there. I’ve always thought it was abandoned and squatters lived there, but now the truth has been revealed…..via this great New York Magazine article.
Now if I can only get INSIDE the building………..

Where are the bike lanes? And all the cabs, buses and subways look like shit. Crime. It does not look enjoyable to me. And why does everyone who speaks in this propaganda film have a weird NY accent?
