I’m sure you have seen this video since it popped up on the interweb & blogs yesterday. Just a random happenstance on the NYC subway system….and a very beautiful happenstance which makes you forget about all the grime, crime and in-your-face shit that us New Yorker’s deal with everyday.

I did a little research and found the singer’s blog (I mean, who doesn’t have a blog these days) where she writes about this experience.

Enjoy!

Rat attacks woman on subway

This is my WORST FUCKING NIGHTMARE.

This is What the NYC Subway System Looked Like in 1986

To continue my fascination with NYC 1980’s subways, check this video out. After watching all 10 minutes of it, it made me think the dilapidated subways of the past (i.e. the subways in this video) have left alot of bad mojo in the tunnels, thus why everyone is so angry. My hippie suggestion would be to burn some sage in all the subway tunnels to get the bad mojo out.

Interesting mini-doc by Luke Rudkowski where he asks some heavy questions to everyday NYC subway riders. Take the 12 minutes out of your day to watch this because you will be moved, and look at your fellow straphangers a little bit differently, in a positive way.

Cannot stop looking at this collection of photos from the NYC subway from the ’80s. This one is by Bruce Davidson. I love how it’s perfectly Bright Lights, Big City.

I love looking at pictures of NYC culture from the 80’s….it immediately brings me back to my childhood….holding my mother’s hand as we walked to a fabric store on the LES, jumping on the bus to go to Stuyvesant Town to visit friends, viewing graffiti on buildings and not understanding the pictures, but mesmerized by the colors and design, and my favorite…walking around at night, with the sidewalks lit by the restaurants and bars (obviously with my parents as I was under 10), watching all the adults pass me by laughing and dressed up in the latest 80’s fashion trend (shoulder pads, red lipstick).

NYC Subway Story

I have a subway friend. We’re not really friends, but I call us friends (ok…we’re ‘pretend’ friends for 20 minutes on the train!) because we very often see each other in the morning, waiting in the same spot for the train. She gets on at my spot and gets off at Rockefeller Center. This has been going on since I moved back to NY. She’s dresses real cool, very LES hipster with a touch of experimentation meaning that sometimes her outfits I admire, and sometimes I think she’s gone too far. But at least she’s having fun with fashion.

This morning, I saw her leaning against the tile wall behind me….with a BOY!!! My subway friend has a boyfriend!!! They were totally hugging, cuddling, laughing and whispering to each other. It was sooo cute! Love is in the air!! Yay for my subway friend!!

Tumblrererer Sighting!!!!

This morning I had a sighting of THIS fellow Tumblr. It was weird because it kind of felt like a mini-celebrity sighting because since I follow her blog (for about a year now…which makes you kinda know at least a little bit about someone)…and may have even reblogged some of her posts, I felt like I was actually seeing someone that I read about in the tabloids!!!

I was going to go up and say hi….but then thought it would’ve been weird for the following reasons:

- It was almost 9:30am and I personally not very social when just starting my day
- I was annoyed that 3 downtown F trains had passed & not ONE uptown F had come through
- I was sweating profusely from my 15 minute walk to the train

I’m going to shoot her an email…..why not!!!!
